Parlando di Guerre Stellari non posso non parlare dell'influenza che la saga ha avuto-ha-avrà sulla moda.
Vi ho già parlato di alcune citazioni in altri film famosi, anche se ce n'è uno, uno davvero famoso, che non ho ancora trattato. E' legato a questo post perché il costumista era ed è uno stilista. Parlo di Jean-Paul Gaultier e il suo Il quinto elemento.
Per ora, voglio rimanere nell'ambito della moda.
E non parlerò di tutti quelli che producono cose che sono più gadget che moda e che, per questa ragione, sono solitamente acquistate solo dai fan.
Talking about Star Wars I can not avoid the influence that the saga had-has-will have on Fashion.
I've already talked about some influences on other movies but there is one, a really famous one, I've not already debate about. It is related to this post because the Costume Designer was and is a Fashion Designer. I'm talking about Jean Paul Gaultier and his The fifth element.
For now, I just want to stay on the fashion field.
And I'm not going to talk about all those who produce something that are more gadgets and merchandise than fashion and, for this reason, usually bought by fans.

Ovviamente è un'ispirazione a doppio senso: dalla storia del costume al cinema e da questo alla moda e al cinema stesso. Infine, dalla moda torna al cinema e si ricomincia.
L'ho già scritto ma ve lo ricordo: la saga prende molto dai costumi asiatici, in particolare giapponesi. Questo è più evidente nella seconda -la nuova- trilogia.
Ma...scommetto che vi state chiedendo "Perché il costumista prese-prende dalla cultura giapponese se abbiamo dato per buono che parliamo di cavalieri?"
Perché- e sarà argomento di un post futuro- c'è una stretta relazione tra medioevo europeo e feudalesimo giapponese. C'è anche una stretta correlazione con il modo di intendere l'amore...
Ma, per il momento, potete solo credermi. Ancora una volta.
Posso anche argomentare che Han Solo è tutto fuoché un samurai. E' uno yankee, un cowboy. Lo potete capire dal suo comportamento: è maleducato, rozzo, rumoroso e arrogante mentre tutti gli altri personaggi (vestiti in simil stile giapponese) sono più calmi, educati e con un grande aplomb.
Chiaramente è il tipico stereotipo di americani e giapponesi. Più o meno lo stesso che succede tra italiani-spagnoli e tedeschi.
Of course it is a two-way inspiration: from historical Costume to the Cinema, then to Fashion and Cinema itself, too. Finally from fashion back again to the Cinema and so on.
I've already wrote it but I want to refresh your memory: the saga takes a lot from the Costumes of Asia, in particular Japan. This is more evident in the second -the new one- trilogy.
But... I can guess you're asking your self “Why the Costume Designer took-takes from Japanese culture if we assume we are talking about Knight?”
Because -and it will be matter of a future post- there's a strong relation between European Dark Age and the Japanese feudalism. There's also a strong connection between the way to intend love.
For the moment, you have to trust me. Once again.
But I can also argue that Han Solo is everything but a samurai. He's more a yankee cowboy. You can assume it from his behaviour: he's rude, noisy, arrogant and rough while all the other characters (dressed in similar-Japanese style) are more quite, polite and with a great aplomb.
Clearly it is the typical stereotype of American and Japanese people. More or less the same for the Italian-Spanish people and the Germans.

The most recent example comes from Rodarte that, for the fall/winter 2014 line, proposed dresses with prints from Star Wars. Not just an inspiration. You can also see from which part of the movie they come. But it was not the first time...

Precedentemente, Balenciaga usò una citazione più delicata nel 2012 (collezione autunno/inverno) e non solo per i cappelli.
La passione per la fantascienza dell'allora stilista del brand, Nicolas Ghesquière, era famosa. Tanto che anche la pubblicità ci giocava: qui sotto lo si vede combattere con la sua creazione.
Previously, Balenciaga used a softener reference in (F/W) 2012 and not just for the hats.
The passion for Sci-fi of Nicolas Ghesquière -the designer of the brand at that time- was really well known.
Also the advertisement played with it: here under you can see him fighting with his own creation.

A proposito di pubblicità, devo riferirvi che alla fine degli anni 70 la saga era così popolare che anche Vogue usò i personaggi più iconici in un servizio fotografico.
Talking about advertisement, I have to tell you that at the end of the 70's the Saga was so popular that also Vogue used the most iconic character for a photo shoot.

Ed eccoci ora alla precedente citazione di Guerre Stellari di Rodarte nella collezione primavera/estte 2009 (sotto).
Per entrambe va ricordato che l'Episodio III era appena uscito al cinema (nel 2005... vi ho già spiegato le tempistiche della moda dall'ispirazione alla passerella in questo post).

Cosa dire di Issey Miyake e della collezione "Kamiko" (che significa 'piccola principessa', è un abito Washi su misura. Il Washi è -letteralmente- carta giapponese. Non stupitevi: anche il cotone è una fibra vegetale) del 1982, fatta nel tradizionale tessuto giapponese Shifuori (un tessuto intrecciato, cioè, con corde fatte a brandelli)? Si tratta del costume per i sequel di Obi Wan o, al contrario, il film gli diede l'ispirazione?
What to say about Issey Miyake and the 1982 collection “Kamiko” (whose name means 'little princess' is a tailored Washi clothes. Washi -literary- is the Japanese paper. But don't be surprised: even coton is a vegetable fibre), made in a traditional Japanese Shifuori fabric (which was weaved with the strings made out of shredded)? Is it the Obi Wan's Costume for the sequels or, at the contrary, the movie gave him the inspiration?

Ovviamente è più facile associare un film così iconico a stilisti specifici che hanno un forte imprinting fantascientifico come Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh (entrambi usano principalmente il nero), Mc Queen (spesso usato in film come Hunger Games... Ma parlerò anche di questo... più avanti!), Emilio Pucci, Versace (gli ultimi sono, nella mia testa, veramente costumi fantascientifici già pronti all'uso, Galliano, Manish Arora, Thierry Mugler e tanti altri.
Of course it's easier to associate a so iconic movie to specific fashion designers that have a strong sci-fi imprinting as Rick Owens, Gareth Pugh (they both use mainly the black), Mc Queen (often used in the movie like Hunger Games... but I will talk about it, too, later!), Emilio Pucci, Versace (the latest are -in my mind- really amazing already made sci-fi costumes), Galliano, Manish Arora, Thierry Mugler and much more.

Ma ce ne sono altre, in tutto il mondo, che usano (come fece Rodarte) un mood fantascientifico anche se il risultato non è così alieno.
Mi è sufficiente parlarvi della collezione primavera estate del 2014 di Siki Im. Il mood spazia dal Medio Oriente a rari giochi dei Transformers. Ma, se prestate attenzione alla foggio della camicia e al taglio del collo, potete immaginarla facilmente nel deserto di Tatooine proprio come il costume di Luke.
But there are others, all around the world, that use (as Rodarte did) a sci-fi mood even if the result is not so alien.
It's enough for me to talk about the SS'14 collection of Siki Im. It takes from Middle East and some rare Transformers toy. But, if you pay attention to the size of the shirt and the shape of the neck, you can easily see it on the desert of Tatooine as well as the Luke's costume.

Lo stesso discorso vale per Patrick Ervell, la cui collezione autunno inverno del 2013 ritornava alle radici silvestri e nel profondo della foresta ma che era anche industriale nella sua sintetica precisione.
The same with Patrick Ervell, whose FW'13 collection returned to sylvan roots and deep in the forest but was also industrial in its synthetic precision.

E cosa dire del designer saudita Hatem Alakeel e della designer emiratina Sara al Madani?
