servito da sola stamattina nel postare uno degli ultimi capitoli di
una fanfiction (di stampo marveliano, guarda un po'...chi fosse
interessato, trova i miei racconti sotto il nick dark-ronin )

Nathan... un nome comunissimo, vero?
L'unica cosa a cui possiamo pensare noi
europei, onestamente, davanti a questo nome... è Nathan Never... il
popolare fumetto della Bonelli.
Nathan nasce nel 1991 (editorialmente parlando... nella sua realtà si tratta dell'anno 2057).
Il look è pesantemente influenzato da Blade Runner.
Blade Runner ispirato al grande romanzo di Philip K. Dick Gli androidi sognano pecore elettriche? Per ogni dettaglio di quel film vi consiglio 20 cose che forse non sapevate su Blade Runner
Come vedrete (sia qua, sia nella pagina linkata) c'è un costante rimando tra Blade Runner e Alien.
Può essere straniante tanto quanto rendersi conto che ci sono continui rimandi tra E.T. e Guerre Stellari...

Nathan... is a very ordinary name, isn't it?
The
only thing that Europeans (and not all of them) can think about it,
honestly, is Nathan Never, an Italian sci-fi comic of Bonelli
Editor.
Nathan
is born in 1991 (editorially speaking. But in his reality is the year
2057).
The
look is heavily inspired by Blade Runner. And Blade Runner in turn is
taken from the Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids
Dream of Electric Sheep? For
any detail I suggest this post (in Italian again).
How
you can see (here and in the linked page) there's a constant
cross-reference between Blade
Runner and
Alien.
It could appears strange as you realize how many links there are
between E.T. and Star Wars...

A un esame più attento notiamo che quel dannato cappotto, iconico dell'uno e dell'altro personaggio, rimanda già a un altro personaggio Marveliano che con questa storia non c'entra proprio nulla: Gambit non ha smesso questo pastrano nemmeno in tempi recenti (certo, nel tempo è diventato un semplice trench)...solo saltuariamente, qui e là, si degna di optare per un comune chiodo da motociclista...
Ma torniamo a noi...

a depth-analysis we can notice that the coat, iconic for both the
main characters, is connected to another Marvel character that avoid
from this story: Gambit never stops using it not even recently (of
course by the years it has became a simple trench) and just sometimes
he choose a common biker studded leather jacket....

Rick e Nathan originano entrambi in un
prossimo futuro. Anche Nathan Christopher (Charles)– Dayspring -
Askani'son – Cable – Summers (d'ora in poi, per gli amici e per
non fare confusione, sarà semplicemente Cable per tutti) viene da un
prossimo futuro. E il confine uomo-macchina è labile... come per Deckard.(tra l'altro, l'occhio scintillante e il volto metà umano metà macchina...avete presente? Bene... ritornerà in Terminator)
Rick and Nathan originate both in a next future. Also Nathan Christopher (Charles) – Dayspring – Askani'son – Cable – Summers (from now, for the friends and to not make confusion, he'll be only Cable) come from a next future. And the line between human and device is really thin...as for Deckard.

Cable fa la sua prima apparizione da
adulto nel 1990 nella serie sui Nuovi Mutanti (mentre da
moccioso era già comparso nel 1986 nelle pagine di Uncanny X-Men)
e arriva in Italia solo nel '93, nell'allora X-Marvel.
Cable è antecedente a Nathan e si potrebbe pensare a un plagio. Ma il via al progetto della Bonelli venne dato l'11 novembre 1989 e vide la luce nel giugno 1991. summers of the 1991. Just in time to see Cable on the American
magazines. Therefore, the dates want that there's no doubt: it's just
a coincidence. But I'm not so sure.

innegabilmente simile... capelli bianchi (ma coppino nero), barba
incolta, muso arcigno, entrambi di età incerta ma sicuramente non
più giovani (Cable afferma di essere più vecchio di Scott -che ha
sicuramente più di vent'anni, all'epoca- mentre Nathan lo si vede in
alcuni flash-bach coi capelli neri e l'aria meno tirata)...
Certo...Cable e l'originale Nick Fury si confondono per le stesse caratteristiche (e perché girano sempre armati di cose più grandi di loro) anche se i colori dei capelli sono invertiti (soprattutto ora che entrambi hanno la benda sull'occhio -uno a destra uno a sinistra) Però, il primo è un guerrigliero, il secondo una super spia. Effettivamente, Nathan Never sta nel mezzo... sta a vedere che hanno unito le due figure?

Ok,
Cable and the original-not-Ultimate- Nick Fury confuse one another
for the same reasons (and because they are always armed with rifle
bigger than them) even though hair colours are inverted (especially
now that both are blindfolded, one on the right eye, the other one on
the left one). But the first one is a warrior, the second a
super-spy. Actually, Nathan Never is in the middle... maybe Bonelli
melted the two Marvel characters in one.

Comunque, il rimando, il contaminamento, se c'è (e c'è),
è per lo più grafico.
D'altronde, un artista è sempre a caccia di ispirazione, è curioso e indaga in ogni campo. Tanto più nell'editoria se con essa ha a che fare.

Può essere che i disegnatori, più che
gli autori (la trama è completamente diversa e autonoma), siano
incappati in quel numero di Uncanny X-men e in questo personaggio
futuristico da cui si sono lasciati ispirare o semplicemente è
rimasto loro impresso (anche se io ravviso una somiglianza nel
rapporto duale e cameratesco Nathan/Legs e Cable/Domino...i due
personaggi femminili, per altro hanno un carattere simile..ma per
fare il lavoro che fanno non è che possano essere poi molto
diverse).
E c'è sempre la casualità che due team separati abbiano sviluppato un personaggio simile. Tutti e due traggono dall'universo Sci-fi (le citazioni, alla Marvel si sprecano... Per non parlare della smaccata citazione Alien – Covata). Alien torna anche nel personaggio di Legs Weaver, ispirato a Ellen Ripley (Legs Weaver-Sigourney Weaver).

E c'è sempre la casualità che due team separati abbiano sviluppato un personaggio simile. Tutti e due traggono dall'universo Sci-fi (le citazioni, alla Marvel si sprecano... Per non parlare della smaccata citazione Alien – Covata). Alien torna anche nel personaggio di Legs Weaver, ispirato a Ellen Ripley (Legs Weaver-Sigourney Weaver).

an artist is always searching for some inspiration, is curios and
look into any field. Especially in the publishing industry if he/she
works with it.
It
could be that the illustrators, more than the authors (because plot
is totally autonomous), found that issue of Uncanny
X-men
and in this futuristic character, whom they were influenced from or,
simply, it made an impression on them (even if I see likeness in dual
relationship and in comradeship between Nathan/Legs and
Cable/Domino... what's more, the two female characters have the same
nature... but, to do their job, they have to be quite similar).
And
there's also the chance that both separate teams developed a similar
character. Both takes from the sci-fi universe (quotations, in Marvel
style. Say nothing of the excessive quote Alien – Brood that come
back in the Legs character inspired by Ellen Ripley: Legs Weaver-Sigourney Weaver....)

contemporanea), Lathan Devers.
Quindi anche il caso di omonimia sarebbe solo una coincidenza nel tentativo di conciliare un personaggio Dickiano e uno Asimoviano.

most credible hypothesis seems to be the one in which the
scriptwriters found in Nathan -Cable- Summers the perfect short-cut
(graphically and nominally) to arrange the Lathan's name. Cable,
indeed, is that balance between humankind and any kind of
electronic-mechanical device.
D'altronde, ricordo che alla Marvel hanno molta fantasia per nomi e situazioni (ragni e ambienti circensi sono in pole position) e di Nathan ce n'è più d'uno... e uno è un certo Sinistro-Essex che gioca coi geni dei mutanti e che ha parte attiva nella creazione di Cable come lo conosciamo noi.On the other hand, I want to remember that Marvel has a lot of fantasy about names and circumstances (spiders and circus backgrounds) and there's more than one Nathan... and one is that guy, you know... one called Sinister-Essex, who plays with mutant genes and has an active role in the creation of Cable how we know him.
