Felini: grandi e strani - Big and Strange Felines

Ecco, finalmente, il post che volevo scrivere dall'inizio del blog: un mix di molti cartoni con cui sono cresciuta.

A quest'ora dovreste aver notato una certa ripetitività nei miei post. Non perché sia fan sfegata (non del tutto) ma semplicemente perché la Marvel pubblica da almeno sessant'anni senza i continui reboots tipici della DC (nel Marvelverse sono universi alternativi. Anche la DC ha i suoi UA... ma funzionano in modo un pò diverso). Quindi è abbastanza ovvio che appaia nella storia di altri media meno longevi. 

Finally here there is the post I wanted write since I opened the blog: a mix of a lot of the cartoon/anime I grew up with.

At this point you should have notice a pattern in my posts. Is not because I am a comic addicted (not at all) but it's just because Marvel comics have been publishing for at least sixty years without the continuous reboots typical of the DC comics (in Mverse are alternative universes. Also DC has its own AU...but they work in a little different way). So it's quite obvious that it could appears in the history of other media long-lived-less.

Lasciate che vi presenti il regno del Wakanda.

Come molti altri posti del Marvelverse (Mandipoor, Latveria e Transia) è un posto inventato. Ma fate attenzione al marchio usato come alternativa alla bandiera (in questo caso, sul frontone del palazzo).

So, let me introduce you the Reign of Wakanda.

As a lot of other places in Marvelverse (like Mandipoor, Latveria and Transia) is a fictional place. Pay attention to the mark used instead of the flag (in this case on the building).

Non è forse il marchio dei Thundercats? Questo cartone, che in Italia sembra nessuno conosca, è abbastanza famoso in altri paesi. Ora, non ricordo la prima volta che ho visto il marchio del Wakanda ma sono abbastanza sicura che abbia anticipato quello dei Thundercats.

Is it the mark of the Thundercats, isn't it? This cartoon, that nobody seems to know in Italy, is quite famous in other countries. I don't remember the first time I saw the mark of Wakanda but I'm quite sure it anticipated the Thundercats one.

Lion-O VS He-Man

Ma i Thundercats hanno connessioni anche con un altro famoso cartone. Poissiamo convenire facilmente che Pantera Nera è uno dei suoi genitori. L'altro è He-Man e i dominatori dell'universo. Forse non nella trama ma, di sicuro, in certe pose.

But Thundercats have connections with other famous cartoon. We can easily argue that Black Panther is one of its parents. The other one is He-Man and the masters of the universe. Maybe not in the plot but, for sure, in some poses. 

Prince Adam & Luke Skywalker

Credo che He-Man e i dominatori dell'universo (a sua volta ispirato da Guerre Stellari oltre dal film Conan il barbaro) possa aver ispirato un altro cartone. Un anime giapponese. E questo, a differenza dei Thundercats, è ben noto in Italia.

Mi riferisco a I 5 Samurai/Yoroiden Samurai Troopers.

I believe that He-Man and the masters of the universe (which was in turn influenced by Star Wars and Conan the Barbarian) also inspired another cartoon. A japanese anime. And this one is, unlike Thundercats, is well-known in Italy. 

I'm refering to Ronin Warriors/Yoroiden Samurai Troopers.

Ancora una volta, l'ispirazione non si trova nella trama ma in un aspetto specifico della storia. O forse due.

Cringer è il famoso compagno del principe Adam/He-Man, un codardo gatto tigrato troppo cresciuto che si trasforma in una feroce tigre verde armata di rosso chiamata Battle Cat. Fantastico!

Once again the inspiration doesn't belong the plot but a specific aspect of the story. Or maybe two.

Cringer is the famous prince Adam/He-Man sidekick, a coward overgrown tabby cat which shift into a fierce green red-armoured tiger named Battle Cat. Amazing! 

Lo stesso succede a Fiamma Bianca (Byakuen), la tigre di Ryo Sanada, il leader dei 5 samurai/YST. All'inizio è solo una tigre bianca himalayana che gioca con il piccolo Danny (Jun Yamano). Finché Lord Cruel (Kenbukyo) non ingaggia battaglia con il suo padrone Ryo per fortificarlo e lasciargli in eredità il suo potere. Così, Ryo ottiene l'armatura bianca e Fiamma Bianca diventa la nuova Fiamma Nera (Kokuenoh).

Oh, per la cronaca, la pelliccia della povera tigre appare anche nell'OAV Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. E 'sto Stardust lo ritroveremo più avanti....

The same happens to White Blaze (Byakuen), the tiger belongs to Ryo Sanada, leader of the RW/YST. At the beginning it's only a white Himalayas tiger that plays with the child Yuli (or Ully. Jun Yamano in the original version). Then Lord Kenbukyo engages a battle with its owner Ryo to fortify him and leave him his own heritage. Thus Ryo obtains the white armour and White Blaze becomes the new Black Blaze (Kokuenoh). For the record, the fur of the poor tiger appears also in the OAV Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. And this Stardust we will meet again.

Questo è l'unico link tra il cartone americano e l'anime giapponese.

Le versioni civili dei personaggi non hanno niente in comune l'una con l'altra: dove il principe Adam sembra un codardo come Clark Kent e Peter Parker per coprire il suo alterego, Ryo è un serio guerriero adolescente h24 e, dove Cringer è semplicemente sempre spaventato come Scooby-Doo, Fiamma Bianca è sempre la fiera e coraggiosa tigre addomesticata e 100% mortale che non vede l'ora di indossare un'armatura e raggiungere gli amici umani in battglia.

This is the only link between the American cartoon and this famous japanese anime.

The civil versions of the characters have nothing in common one another: where Prince Adam looks coward like Clark Kent or Peter Parker to cover his alter-ego, Ryo Sanada is a serious teenage warrior h24 and, where Cringer is simply scared all the time like Scooby-Doo, White Blaze is always a fierce and never frightened mortal tamed tiger waiting for wear its armour and join the battle beside its human friends.

Vestono in modo differente (uno è praticamente nudo e blu, l'altro indossa un'armatura da samurai nero/blu e maschera rossa) ma le facce di entrambi ricordano un teschio inespressivo: uno è davvero un teschio mentre l'altro è solo una vuota maschera rossa che i samurai indossavano con l'elmo.

If you want you can also notice another link between the two evil villains Skeletor and Harago. They wear different clothes (the first is pretty naked and blue, the second one wears a white samurai suit of armour) but both their faces resemble to a non-expressive skull: one is a real skull and the other one is just an empty red mask that samurai wore whit the helmet.

Il lungo preludio, i tuoni e il ritmo (più o meno lo stesso, si tratta solo di aggiustare un attimo la velocità) dovrebbero rimandarvi a una famosa canzone degli anni '80.

I quit with a tidbit.

The long prelude, the thunders and the rhythm (more or less is the same, it's enough to change the speed) must remind you famous '80s song. 

Is it inspired by the Pet Shop Boys' It's a sin, isn'it?
