Frozen Sublimation

Ok, non è colpa mia se tutto ciò che vedo mi ricorda gli X-Men (o, al massimo, qualcosa legato alla Marvel)

La scorsa settimana (o quella prima? Non ricordo) ho visto Maleficent (ma non parlerò di questo) e tutta la ricerca del vero amore (quanto era melenso!) mi ha rimandato a un altro recente film Disney, Frozen. Lo so che tutte le favole si basano su questo ma quest'enfasi era eccessiva, per me.

Quindi, Frozen. Non parlerò dei cameo degli altri film Disney (Rapunzel è il più citato) ma dei mutanti della saga Marvel. Che dire al riguardo?

Le prove erano così tante che, a quel tempo, dimenticai anche di notare la metafora del Coming out (da non confondere con l'Outing: se avete dubbi al riguardo, il vocabolario è un valido strumento!). 

Davvero. Perchè, più o meno, le trame son sempre quelle. Il problema, i ragazzini nascosti nel bosco, la reazione della gente...

Ma... gli X-men -i fumetti- hanno sempre rappresentto gruppi di minoranza di ogni tipo che i gruppi di maggioranza volevano/vogliono sopprimere/curare, chi è diverso -in qualunque modo-, chi spaventa ed è spaventato e così via.

Ok, it's not my fault if everything I see remember the X-men to me (or, at least, anything belong to the Marvel).

Last week (or the previous one? I don't remember) I saw Maleficent (I'm not going to talk about it) and all the quest for the “True love” (OMG it was so mushy!) cross-referred me to another recent Disney's movie, Frozen. I know that all the fables are based on this but this emphasis is too much for me.

So... Frozen. I'm not going to talk about the cameos of others Disney's movies (Rapunzel is the most quoted one) but about the Mutants of the Marvel's saga. What about it? 

The evidences were so much that, at that time, I forgot to notice the metaphor of the coming out. Really. Because, more or less, the plot is always the same. The problem, the hidden child, the forest, people's reaction...

But... X-men -the comic- always represented minority groups of all kind that the main groups would like to suppress/cure, who is different -in any way-, who scares and is scared too, and so on.

Elsa + Anna = Rogue

Sin dall'inizio del film, possiamo vedere come Elsa non controlli il proprio potere. Congela ogni cosa che tocca e così deve coprirsi completmente per smorzare questo potere e -per essere sicura- isolarsi dal resto del mondo, anche da sua sorella che già una volta ha messo in pericolo. 

Così, immediatamente, non potevo non pensare a Rogue. Ma sapete già che è la mia preferita...

Questo era il primo indizio. Quindi i genitori portano lei e la sorella dai Troll. Quando il re, poi, spiega cosa sta succedendo, davvero, mi aspettavo suggerisse di portarla alla scuola di Westchester. 

Come poi hanno fatto, giustamente, in How it Should Have Ended.

From the beginning of the film, we can see Elsa who can't control her power. She freezes everything she touches, so she has to completely cover herself to soften her power and -just to be sure- isolate from the rest of the world, also from her sister that once she put in trouble. 

So, immediately, I think at Rouge. You already knows she's my favourite character...

But this was the first hint. Then the parent bring her and her sister to the trolls. When the king spoke, explaining what was happened, really, I expected that they suggested to take her to Westchester's school. 
As done -rightly- in How it Should Have Ended.

Non sarebbe neppure così strano anche se è comunque troppo presto (se guardiamo alla continuity 616). Anche se nella nostra testa siamo nel medioevo con la storia originale de La Regina delle Nevi di Andersen, possiamo stabilire, più o meno, il periodo in cui è collocato il film. Quando la notizia dell'apertura delle porte del castello per il compleanno di Elsa arriva alle orecchie Anna, lei balla per tutta casa, da sola, e salta davanti a diversi dipinti: la storia è sicuramente collocata alla fine del XIX secolo o all'inizio del Ventesimo secolo ( i dipinti saranno stati appesi alle pareti per qualche anno prima dell'arrivo di queste nuove persone). Possiamo anche osservare le uniformi e i vestiti degli ospiti per lo stesso motivo.
It wouldn't have been so strange even if it's too early for it (if we look at the continuity 616). Even if our mind is in the Dark-Age with the original tale of the Andersen's The Snow Queen, we can fix, more or less, the period in which the movie is set. When the news of the opening of the castle for Elsa's birthday comes to Anna's ears, she dances all around the house, all alone, and she also jump in front of some painting: for sure the story sets at least at the end of the XIX century or at the beginning of the XX century (the painting have been on the wall for years before these new people to come). We can also look at the uniforms and at the dresses of the hosts for the same reason.

Quindi, Rogue e la scuola di Xavier... Solo in quel momento ho notto che il potere di Elsa, uno di quelli criocinetici, era lo stesso di Bobby Drake (e per forza, lei è la Regina delle Nevi, anche se non cattiva) e... quella ciocca di capelli bianchi di Anna? Ancora una volta ho pensato a Rogue (il cui vero nome è Anna Marie o Marian -Marie+Anna-... e l'attrice che ne interpreta il ruolo sullo schermo è Anna Paquin... Quindi, una nuova domanda: perché chiamarla Anna se nella storia di Andersen c'erano solo Kai, il bambino vittima della Regina delle Nevi, e Gerda, il personaggio principale che lo salva?). Entrambe le principesse, inoltre, sono spesso vestite di verde, il colore identificativo della mutante.

Un momento... Anna ed Elsa (se volessimo pensarlo come un rapporto tra due donne non consanguinee) potrebbe facilmente sovrapporsi alla relazione Rogue/Bobby dei film e/o dell'Universo Ultimate dei fumetti...

So, Rogue and the Xavier's School... only in that moment I noticed that the power of Elsa, a cryokinetic one, was the same of Bobby Drake (of course, she's the Snow Queen, even if not evil) and... that lock of white hair that belongs to Anna? Once again I thought to Rogue (the real name is Anna Marie or Marian -Marie+Anna-... and the actress that plays the role on the screen is Anna Paquin... So, one more question: why call her Anna, if in the Andersen's tale there were only Kai, a boy who is victim of the Snow Queen, and Gerda, the main character, who rescues him?) What's more, the two princesses, are often dressed both in green, the colour that is typical of that mutant.
Just a moment, please... Anna and Elsa (if we take it as a relachionship between two not akin women) is easily superimposed to the relation Rogue/Bobby of the movies and/or the comics' Ultimate Universe...

Bene. A quel punto ho provato a spegnere il cervello e sembrava funzionare... finché non ho visto la profezia divenire realtà. Quindi ho realizzato che c'era chiaramente un'altra citazione.. Ed era il turno di Jean Grey, alias Fenice (Nera). Guardiamo i colori (e il contesto). Più Elsa è spaventata e in balia dei suoi sentimenti negativi, più è in pericolo. E, come Regina delle Nevi può anche dare la vita a un pupazzo di neve (e pure preservarlo in estate). La Forza Fenice può fare lo stesso: dà la vita quando buona, la prende quando è nella sua versione oscura. E' potente e non può essere controllata. Ma più sale la rabbia dell'ospite, più questa diventa distruttiva.

Well. At that point I tried to shut down my brain and it seemed to work... till I saw the prophecy become true. Then I realized there clearly was another reference. And was time to Jean Grey A.K.A. The (Dark) Phoenix to rise. Look at the colour (and at the context). More Elsa is scared and at the mercy of her own bad feelings more she is in danger. And, as Snow Queen she can also give life to a snowman (and preserve it also in summer). The Phoenix Force is able to do the same: it gives life when good, takes it when is the Dark version. It is powerful and cannot be controlled. But more is the rage of the host, more it become destructive.

Oh, un'altra cosa: Jean, come Fenice, diventa sexy come fa Elsa come Regina delle Nevi.

Ok, lo so che gli X-Men appartengono alla Fox e non alla Marvel & Disney. Ma ci sono abbastanza spunti da suggerirmi che c'è la volontà di riavere i personaggi e, poiché la Casa produttrice non può lavorare con loro, questo è un modo creativo per usarli senza averli: in Psicologia si chiama Sublimazione.

Un'ultima cosa: ci sono voci circa un possibile sequel. Se fosse, scommetto che conterrebbe altri riferimenti dal Marvelverse. Ne sono sicura.

Ok. I know that X-Men are belong to Fox and not to Marvel & Disney. But there are enough hints to suggest me that there is the will to have back the characters and, because the Company cannot work with them, this is a creative way to use them without having them: in Psychology it is called Sublimation.

One last thing: there are rumours about a possible sequel. If it will be, I guess it will contain other reference from the Marvelverse. I'm Sure.
