Cos'hanno in comune Nathan Never, Occhi di Gatto (sì, le tre sorelle ladre) e l'Uomo Ragno?

Visti così...nulla. Sono un fumetto italiano, un manga giapponese trasposto in anime e uno dei più famosi e iconici comic americani.
Eppure... l'anello di congiunzione risiede proprio nel manga del Sol Levante.
Che gli americani, sotto sotto, amino il Giappone (almeno per saccheggiarne le idee) non è sta gran novità. Basta pensare alle imprese di Wolverine (e a tutte le donne giapponesi di cui si è innamorato).
L'Italia? Beh... gli anni 80 son stati un tripudio di cartoni giapponesi e tutti quelli che erano bimbi allora (sì, anch'io) sono cresciuti con una passione per l'oriente più spiccata rispetto ai loro coetanei di dieci anni prima e/o dopo. Non c'è da stupirsi che Nathan Never, che, come dicevo nel post precedente, vide la luce negli anni 90 e fu influenzato dai grandi film di fantascienza che dominarono il panorama cinematografico in quel decennio, ne venisse impregnato anch'esso. 
So, what Nathan Never, Cat's Eye (yes, the three thieves-sisters) and Spider-Man have in common?
At the first sight, nothing. One is an Italian comic, the second one a Japanese manga converted in anime and the third one of most famous and iconic American comics.
But the joining link is in the country of the Rising Sun.
It's not a big scoop that Americans, beneath the mask, love Japan (if for no other reason to steel the ideas). It's enough to think about Wolverine and all the Japanese women he fell in love with.
But what about Italy? Well... The '80s were overflowing of Japanese cartoons and all the people that were children at that time (yes, me too) grew with a passion for the East more marked if compared to the peer of ten years before and/or after. There's nothing strange if Nathan Never is soaked by them. I want to remember you that that specific Italian comic was born in the earlier years of the '90s and was influenced by the greatest sci-fi movie that dominated the filming scene of the decade.

Occhi di Gatto. Tre sorelle che han fatto un patto...

Partiamo da Nathan. 

Con la presenza di tre sorelle. 

April, May e July Frayn. (la prima apparizione di May, la più celebre delle tre, avviene nel 1993). 

I nomi sono quelli delle nipotine di Paperina (tradotte in italiano come Emy, Ely e Evy), solo che June è diventata July (se qualcuno ha dei dubbi, il padre delle ragazze è Donald Frayn... e tutti sanno che Paperino è Donald Duck...oltre che Paperinik).
Let's start from Nathan.
With the participation of three sisters.
April, May and July Frayn (the first appearance of May, the most famous of the group, was in the 1993).
They have the same names of Daisy Duck little niece (that in Italian were tranlsate as Emy, Ely and Evy). Just June became July. If somebody has a doubt about this reference, I think is enough to let you know that the father of this three girls is Donald Frayn. Don't you see the reference to Donald Duck? 

Nella figura grande May, le due piccole in b/n sono April (la più grande...sempre coi capelli ricciolini) e July, la minore delle tre.

May poi stringerà una strana e ambigua relazione affettivo-lavorativa con la più famosa Legs Weaver e avrà una relazione con un tale... Raul leBlanc. Ladro.
Ora...io sono fissata, ho le mie preferenze...ma un ladro, il cui nome inizia per R e il cognome per leB*** (con un che di francese) io già lo conosco: Remy leBeau! L'ambiguo X-Man Gambit, figlio del genetista Nathan -Sinistro- Essex. Per la cronaca, Gambit fece la sua comparsa nel 1990, in Italia nel 1994. E May, l'amante di Raul, come detto prima, solo nel 1993 e Raul venne sicuramente dopo. C'era tutto il tempo per "ispirarsi".

Hereafter, May Frayn has a strange and ambiguous working-affective relationship with the most famous Legs Weaver. Then she has also a relationship with a guy named Raul leBlanc. A thief.
Now. I'm a little bit obsessed, I have my preferences... but... I already know a thief, whose name begins with R and the surname begins with leB*** (with an indefinable something of French): Remy leBeau! The ambiguous X-Man Gambit, son of the geneticist Nathaniel-Sinister-Essex. For the record, Gambit appeared for the first time in the 1990 (in Italy in the 1994). As already said, May -Raul's lover- appeared only in the 1993 and Raul, of course, after that date. There was all the time to be “inspired”.

Sclera bianca invece che nera, Raul ha anche quella barbetta lunga, tipica dell'X-man cajun. Per altro, uno dei nomi con cui è conosciuto Remy è anche le Diable Blanc (il diavolo bianco): coincidenza?
The sclera is white instead of red and black, Raul has also the five-o' clock shadow, the cajun X-man's mark. What's more, one of the names that Remy is know with is also Le Diable Blanc (the White Devil): just a coincidence?

Torniamo alle nostre tre sorelle... e tre ladre.
A cosa pensate? Alle ladre nipponiche!
Anche graficamente, April, May e July ricordano Ai, Rui e Hitomi Kisugi (Tati, Kelly e Sheila Tashikel).
La trasposizione animata del manga (1983-85) arrivò in Italia nel 1983.
Il rimando è palese.

The anime (1983-1985) arrived in Italy only in the 1983. And the reference is quite obvious. 

Ma già che ho citato Gambit, torniamo alla Marvel. E a Spidey.

Uno dei tanti guai in cui si caccia il nostro amichevole Uomo Ragno di quartiere è, guarda caso... una ladra. La Gatta Nera! (classe 1979) Ancora il cliché gatto-ladro. Manca una connessione a Catwoman (classe 1940) e abbiamo finito. 

Back to the Marvel (and Spidey), considering that I talked about Gambit.
One of the trouble in which our friendly neighborhood hero bump into is (just a coincidence) a thief. Balck Cat (1979)! Here it is again the cliché cat-thief. We just need Catwoman (1940) to complete the sequence.

Giusto! Obietterà qualcuno. Perché lei non è nel novero e la Gatta sì? 
Perché (a parte essere io pubblicamente una fedele Marveliana e conoscere meglio quel tipo di prodotto) la Gatta, quando decide di rigare dritto e si converte a investigatrice privata (cosa che mi solletica un City Hunter a caso, soprattutto perché so come finisce), chiama la propria agenzia nientepopodimeno che... Cat's Eye Investigation (appunto!)

Ok! Somebody could argue. Why she is not in the group but the Cat is?
Because (aside the fact that I'm publicly loyal to Marvel and I know better its product) the Black Cat, when she decide to walk the line and she convert to private eye (something that remember me City Hunter, especially because I know how the sentence ends), dubs her own investigative agency Cat's Eye Investigation, no less!

Unica immagine reperibile in rete dell'esistenza dell'Agenzia (non chiedetemi di cercare quest'ago nei miei comics... è bastato cercare la doppia pagina del post precedente). C'è da dire che, per lo meno il logo differisce dall'originale. anche se non capisco perchè scriverlo in italiano su un sito americano..misteri (sì, talvolta i nomi italiani sono originali... ma in questo caso, nell'originale dovrebbe essere tutt'altro).
The only image I was able to find in the Web about the existence of the agency (please, don't ask me to search it my comics... It was enough the splash page in the previous post). I have to say that, at least, the logo is different from the original one, even if I don't understand why to wrote it in Italian language on an American website... mysteries  (Yes, sometimes the Italian names are originals but in this case in the original one would have been something else)
 

In realtà la migrazione è partita proprio da Catwoman, che è stata copiata e riadattata da Felicia Hardy/Gatta Nera e insieme hanno creato le sorelle nipponiche (all'inizio dell'anime Hitomi/Sheila usa una frusta, chiaro omaggio a Selina Kyle) che a loro volta han dato lo spunto alle sorelle Frayn.

Evidenziamo un'altra ovvietà: lei, la ladra, la gatta ladra (non era gazza ladra?) fa di tutto per stare con il buono/poliziotto/vigilante di turno... che cliché!
Onestly, the migration started from Catwoman herself, who was copied and rearranged by Felicia Hardy/Black Cat and, together, they created the Japanese sisters (at the begining of the anime Hitomi used a whip, clear tribute to Selina Kyle) from which the idea for the Frayn Sisters.
Another blatancy: she, the thief, a cat-pie (wasn't it magpie?) do everything is possible to draw the attention of the good/policeman/hero on call... a perfect cliche!
